As benches are relatively affordable outdoor furniture most people just go to the store and buy or purchase their benches online. But they are missing the great opportunities that building yourself gives: to have a bench of any design, to have fun, to acquire some new skills, and to be proud of the result of your work!
In this article we will learn how to build a simple wooden outdoor bench. Let's start:
Plan the location. Planning/choosing the location of your bench itself is pretty simple task but it's important because it can influence some of the characteristics of your bench. The most important thing is to see how much space the bench can occupy and plan its size accordingly to that. Don't forget that there must be space behind it so people don't hit their heads in a wall or three when stretching themselves, and that there should be enough space for the legs.
Good locations for outdoor benches are next to walkways, fences, house walls, or in patio areas.
Draw or obtain plans. Don't start without any plans, the risk to waste materials and time is very real. There are a lot of bench plans available online and plenty of them are even free. You can design a bench yourself too, just make sure that you have some drawings with sizes on it.
The bench we are suggesting in this article is a simple wooden bench with 4 or 6 legs and a back. You can however design it or modify it easily.
Create the seat. Building the seat is a good start. It's quite simple: you need 2 or 3 plans or 10 - 20 slats. I prefer seats from large planks because they are more comfortable. Connect these with 4 or 5 beams at the bottom, equally distributed - if the bench is longer than 1m, the beams better be 5 and the 5th one should be in the middle.
Two of the beams should be near the ends, there will be attached the legs.
Make and attach the legs. The legs can be simply done good sturdy bar or even large branches. Bring your legs under the bar and end at a certain distance from the ends. Use nails or screws and glue to hold it securely. Make sure all legs equal.
If the jet home fifth place means, 2 legs for more stability.
Locations and mount the back. The back should be after the other parts are assembled together in the Annex. Sometimes it's good, in fact, they attach to the seat installed.Just like the seat, the back slats of 1-2 or more posts are made. The bar, the stabilization of the spine may be longer and will be used to connect to the Bank (through the legs). Of course, there are many other ways, the back, but this one is easy and stable.
Install the bank. Most banks do not need a real installation, you can simply drop it anywhere. But if you have a soft to the selected location, you may need to pay a bit 'of concrete, or at leastgravel in holes right under each bench leg.
Building an outdoor garden bench is a simple project which makes it perfect for starter do-it-yourself fans. Don't hesitate to try it!
